Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Buttercream

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Pour the batter into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  9. For the buttercream, beat together softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Once cakes are cool, spread buttercream between the layers and on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use vanilla bean instead of extract.
  • This cake can be customized with different flavorings or fillings.
