- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with flour.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- For the buttercream, beat together softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once cakes are cool, spread buttercream between the layers and on top.
