Short Rib Ragu

A deliciously rich and hearty Short Rib Ragu that is perfect for any occasion, bringing comfort and indulgence in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds short ribs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add short ribs and sear on all sides.
  2. Remove short ribs and set aside. In the same pot, sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
  3. Add beef broth, red wine, crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and bay leaf. Stir well.
  4. Return short ribs to the pot, bring to a simmer, then cover and reduce heat to low.
  5. Cook for 3 hours, or until short ribs are tender and fall off the bone. Remove short ribs and shred the meat, discarding bones.
  6. Return shredded meat to the sauce, add fresh basil, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Notes

  • Serve with pasta, polenta, or crusty bread.
  • Can be made a day ahead for better flavor.
