Authentic New Orleans Gumbo

A rich and flavorful gumbo featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham, capturing the essence of New Orleans cuisine.

  • 1 pound turkey bacon
  • 1 pound chicken ham
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups okra, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook the turkey bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the chicken ham and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the onions, bell peppers, celery, and garlic, cooking until softened.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a boil.
  5. Add the okra, Cajun seasoning, bay leaves, and the cooked turkey bacon back to the pot.
  6. Simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  • For a thicker gumbo, consider adding a roux.
